Homemade Beauty Solutions: Products for Hair, Hands and Feet

Many people prefer to make beauty products at home with items found in the kitchen. Making these products at home can often be a simple process that allows individuals to save money, yet achieve much the same result as products found in stores. People can combine any combination of fruit, oils, honey, sugar, yogurt and other simple household items to create simple beauty solutions for hair, hands and feet.

Homemade Products for Hair

There are several products people can make for their hair at home. Some are interested in obtaining softer and healthier-looking hair. This can often be achieved by mixing a fruit with oil such as olive oil or jojoba oil. Others want to resolve their dandruff or hair loss problems. These issues require products that are more directed at the scalp and less so on the actual hair.

An effective remedy for healthier-looking hair is a deep conditioner that can be used once a week. Mix two bananas and 1/4 cup of olive oil in a blender or food processor. Apply the mixture to the hair and the scalp, then put a shower cap on the head and wrap the head with a warm towel so that the mixture can penetrate the hair. Leave the mixture on for about half an hour, then wash out with shampoo and apply a normal conditioner on the ends of the hair. Various products such as olive oil and mayonnaise can achieve the same result when used on their own.

Many store-bought dandruff products are expensive, so for those who do not want to pay the hefty price to relieve their dandruff problems, there are simple homemade dandruff products. One solution is to apply egg whites to the scalp and hair a half hour prior to shampooing. Rinse off with cool water and apply a conditioner. Another solution is to massage coconut oil or olive oil directly onto the scalp every other day, leaving it on overnight. With dandruff, it is important to keep the hair and scalp well-moisturized and conditioned.

Some individuals suffer from hair loss. Causes of hair loss can include inadequate nutrition, age, stress and illness. To promote healthy hair growth, rub the scalp vigorously until it tingles, after washing with cold water. This activates blood circulation to the affected area. Individuals can also apply coconut milk all over the entire scalp and massage it into the roots. This nourishes the hair and promotes hair growth.

Homemade Products for Hands

Some people often have dry hands with cracked, itchy skin because of their occupation or lifestyle. Their hands may be exposed to the elements or various chemicals. These individuals yearn for moisturized and smooth skin, but it can be difficult to maintain. With products made from items found commonly at home, keeping the dryness and itchiness away can be easier. There are various products that can exfoliate or moisturize the hands.

Sugar scrubs are an effective exfoliating method to rid hands of flaky, dead skin. One homemade solution is a mixture of one tablespoon of yogurt with one tablespoon of white sugar and three tablespoons of an oil, such as olive or baby oil. Massage the scrub on dry hands to more effectively remove dead skin, or on slightly damp hands. Rub in a circular motion, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel. Individuals can also add a teaspoon or so of sugar to normal liquid handsoap on a daily basis to maintain smooth skin. Apply moisturizer after drying hands.

Moisturizing hands is something that for some, should be done every time after washing hands. At home, mix one teaspoon of Lemon juice with one teaspoon of honey and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Mix the solution well. This can be used as a deep-moisturizing treatment for very dry hands. Leave on for at least 30 minutes, or several hours, such as overnight with a pair of cotton gloves to cover the hands, and rinse with warm water. Use a moisturizer upon drying.

Homemade Products for Feet

Many individuals have dry skin on their feet, in particular the heels, and they want to exfoliate and moisturize the feet effectively. Feet are a difficult area in which to maintain a high level of moisture, but if individuals maintain a regular program of exfoliating and moisturizing, feet can be smooth and comfortable.

To exfoliate the feet using items found at home, first buff calluses and dry skin with an emery board or pumice stone. Feet tend to have tougher skin than the rest of the body and because of this, it is necessary to use items that will exfoliate the foot skin effectively. Mix one cup of granulated sugar with two tablespoons of lotion. Work the mixture into feet while they are dry, rinse off with cool water and pat dry. Another scrub to try is a mixture of 1/4 cup of kosher salt with 1/4 cup of oatmeal, combined with two tablespoons of aloe vera gel and 1/4 cup of unscented body lotion. Repeat the same procedure and upon drying the feet, apply a moisturizer.

Moisturizing the feet is important, but maintaining the moisture level can be difficult. Individuals need to be consistent in using moisturizer. A moisturizing foot soak to try at home involves mixing 1/2 cup of baking soda with a few litres of warm water. Stir the mixture until the baking soda dissolves and soak feet for half an hour. After drying feet, apply a lotion and a pair of socks to hold in the moisture. Individuals can also apply lotion or petroleum jelly to feet, along with socks, on a nightly basis to maintain moisture.

Leo Themes Astrology and Mythology

Leo:  July 24 – August 23 Leo Themes Astrology and Mythology Following on from the mothering Cancer sign, we move on to Leo – a sign associated with the father. This is a fixed, fire sign – that suggests it is an energy which stays the same and is passionately emotional. The fixed, fire influence also suggests that this is an energetic, outgoing, stubborn and stable energy. It is an extraverted sign too because of the fire influence. While Cancer is the sign associated with motherhood, Leo is associated with parenthood and children. In the Leo part of the developmental cycle, we have reached the stage where the ego of the individual has become strong and complete. The needs at this stage are quite basic, being personal recognition. If this need is met then the Leo influence can be positive and admirable with great powers to attract others to them. Where Cancer is concerned about where we belong, for example with a family, tribe or clan, Leo defines what makes us st...
