Herbal Beauty Tips Five Herbs for Skin and Hair

The best beauty herbs for skin and hair — oat straw, nettles, rosemary, seaweed, and chamomile — have beneficial properties for improving the health and appearance of your body. They are nature’s tools for enhancing beauty and protecting the body from the negative effects of aging and the environment. From an oat straw bath to a rosemary hair treatment, try these herbal beauty tips for natural care.

Nourishing Beauty Herbs — Oat Straw and Nettles

Oat straw and nettles are two of the most important beauty herbs because they are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals which are important for skin and hair health. These are herbal beauty tonics, providing antioxidants to protect cells from damage, silica and Vitamin C  for new connective tissue, vitamin A for healing, and zinc for tissue strength and repair. Oat straw is particularly beneficial for promoting hair growth and younger looking skin. With alterative properties, nettles also acts as a beauty herb by helping to cleanse the body of toxins.

The herbal beauty tip for these two nourishing tonics is to drink one to three cups daily of either herb. While oat straw and nettles can be used to make natural hair and skin treatments, they are the most powerful when taken internally. To make an herbal beauty infusion steep two teaspoons of dried oat straw or nettles in one cup of boiling water for ten minutes. Oat straw blends well with horsetail, nettles with peppermint.

Herbal Beauty Tips from the Sea

Very high in beauty minerals, including zinc, potassium, silica, and iodine, seaweed is one of nature’s most powerful and versatile beauty herbs. Kelp, dulse, hijiki and other sea greens support healthy glandular function, protect the body from pollutants, increase metabolism, and provide nourishment for new cell growth.

There are many herbal beauty tips for seaweed. Try to include sea greens in your diet two to three times a week, alternating between different varieties. Take a rejuvenating seaweed bath twice a month to detoxify the body, smooth skin, and provide a boost of minerals for hair growth. Use a seaweed facial to stimulate lymphatic drainage, improve skin tone, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Use water infused with sea greens for a nourishing hair rinse.

Herbs for Skin and Hair Treatments — Rosemary and Chamomile

Rosemary and chamomile are of the five most important beauty herbs as they are ideal for use in homemade beauty care recipes or herbal beauty products. Rosemary is one of the best herbs for hair growth, stimulating circulation of the scalp while also cleansing. Add two to four drops of rosemary essential oil to your conditioner. Use a cup of rosemary tea as a hair rinse. To make an herbal beauty hair treatment with rosemary, warm one ounce of olive oil by placing in a plastic bag or small glass jar and then let it sit in a bowl of hot water. Add six drops of rosemary essential oil. Comb into hair with fingers and then wrap a towel around the head. Relax for twenty minutes before washing out.

Chamomile is an excellent herb for skin beauty. It has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, calming and cleansing at the same time. Try these herbal beauty tips with chamomile:

  • 2 quarts of boiling water
  • 1 ounce of dried chamomile

Add the water and herbs to a glass bowl. Holding a towel over your head to capture the steam, hold your face over the infusion for a cleansing facial steam treatment.

  • 1 drop of chamomile essential oil
  • 1 tablespoon of rose water

Mix together for a homemade herbal beauty toner.

  • 1 ounce of jojoba oil
  • 6 drops of chamomile oil

Mix together in a sealable glass jar. Store for up to two weeks in a cool, dark, dry place. Use a small amount as a soothing facial oil. Use as a skin moisturizer for dry, inflamed skin. One teaspoonful can be added to bath water for skin nourishing and calming.

Using Herbal Beauty Products, Treatments and Teas

These five herbs are not the only plants that have beneficial properties for skin and hair, but they are some of the most useful and accessible. Look for them in herbal beauty products, try them in homemade recipes, or simply drink nourishing teas steeped from the beauty herbs.

Atonal : The lack of tonality (see Tonal). Atonal music contains pitches or harmonies in which there is no hierarchy or order in relation to a “home” or tonic pitch of a key. Atonal music, because it lacks a sense of structure, tends to sound disconcerting to some listeners. Leo Themes Astrology and Mythology

Leo:  July 24 – August 23 Leo Themes Astrology and Mythology Following on from the mothering Cancer sign, we move on to Leo – a sign associated with the father. This is a fixed, fire sign – that suggests it is an energy which stays the same and is passionately emotional. The fixed, fire influence also suggests that this is an energetic, outgoing, stubborn and stable energy. It is an extraverted sign too because of the fire influence. While Cancer is the sign associated with motherhood, Leo is associated with parenthood and children. In the Leo part of the developmental cycle, we have reached the stage where the ego of the individual has become strong and complete. The needs at this stage are quite basic, being personal recognition. If this need is met then the Leo influence can be positive and admirable with great powers to attract others to them. Where Cancer is concerned about where we belong, for example with a family, tribe or clan, Leo defines what makes us st...
